Qualifications

• High School Graduate or equivalency is required.
• Certification in HIT is preferred.
• Medical Terminology course is required.
• Anatomy and physiology course is preferred.
• Proficiency in software applications that include EMR software, Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook is required.
• One year of previous experience in a Health Care HIM Department is preferred.
• Demonstrates ability to establish effective working relationships and communication with peers, patients, families, providers, and hospital staff.
• Maintains a hospital-wide perspective and serves on department/hospital committees.
• Keeps a positive attitude and influences HIM services direction.
• Ability to handle multiple tasks in a stressful environment with composure and delivery of HIM services.
• Strong working knowledge of medical record principles and practices of HIM.
• Accuracy in grammar, spelling, and punctuation.
• Ability to file numerically and alphabetically.

Responsibilities

• Assembles and analyzes inpatient and outpatient records daily.
• Maintains health information management integrity through scanning and retrieving confidential patient records.
• Answers telephone and responds to customer requests.
• Performs release of information requests and various clerical duties.
