Job summary

University of Miami is seeking a full-time HIM Technician 1 to support the Health Information Management team in Miami, FL. The role ensures accurate patient records, assists with scanning, indexing, and maintaining HIPAA-compliant documentation.

Responsibilities include preparing documents, verifying chart integrity, and supporting EHR workflows to ensure timely access to information for clinicians and patients. Excellent attention to detail and basic computer skills are essential.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent
• Minimum 6 months of relevant experience
• Preferred RHIA or RHIT
• Microsoft Office applications
• Electronic Health Records (EHR) system
• Computer proficiency
• Knowledge of medical terminology preferred
• Basic computer knowledge
• Ability to speak, read, write and to follow written and oral instructions.
• Must possess a high accuracy rate and organizational skills, as well as computer skills.
• Proficient in typing and spelling.
• Maintain compliance with HIPAA requirements and patient confidentiality.
• Any relevant education, certifications and/or work experience may be considered.

Responsibilities

• Provide timely access to records for patients and providers and maintain record integrity.
• Scan and index documents to correct patient, encounter, and document type.
• Prepare documents, remove staples, and ensure proper handling of damaged items.
• Ensure timely processing of electronic files and support coverage to satellite facilities.
• Adhere to policies and safeguard University assets, maintaining HIPAA compliance.
