Responsibilities

• Filing and maintaining health records in the EHR system in a timely and organized manner.
• Assist HIM leadership with operational reports, audits, and quality improvement initiatives to enhance documentation workflows.
• Ensure HIPAA, Joint Commission (JC), and facility policies compliance, maintaining the confidentiality and security of patient health information.
• Ensure all discharge records are received following discharge and follow the Discharge Reconciliation policy when records have not been obtained/received from the units.
• Prepare and scan discharge records within 24 hours of discharge.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
• Maintains regular and reliable attendance.

Job Summary

The Health Information Management (HIM) Technician is responsible for ensuring the accuracy, integrity, and accessibility of patient health records to support coding, reimbursement, physician chart completion, and regulatory compliance. This position plays a critical role in chart and electronic health record (EHR) processing and maintenance. The HIM Technician assists in the timely receipt and processing of patient health records for continuity of care,

Essential Functions

• Ensures accurate filing and maintenance of health records, filing documents in the electronic health record (EHR) system in a timely and organized manner.


• Assists HIM leadership with operational reports, audits, and quality improvement initiatives to enhance documentation workflows.


• Ensures compliance with HIPAA, Joint Commission (JC), and facility policies, maintaining the confidentiality and security of patient health information.


• Ensures all previous day discharges are received in HIM department the following discharge(if not sooner). Follows the Discharge Reconcillation policy when records have not been obtained/received from the units.


• Ensures all received discharge records are prepped and scanned according to policies and within 24 hours of discharge.


• Performs other duties as assigned.


• Maintains regular and reliable attendance.

Qualifications

• 0-1 years of experience in health information management,, or healthcare clerical support required


• Experience in document scanning, indexing, and electronic medical records (EMR) systems preferred

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Strong understanding of medical record workflows, documentation requirements, and regulatory compliance.


• Knowledge of chart deficiency processes, provider suspension workflows, and unbilled management procedures.


• Proficiency in EHR systems, document management, and health information technology platforms.


• Strong organizational and problem-solving skills to ensure timely and accurate documentation.


• Effective communication and collaboration with providers, HIM leadership, and interdisciplinary teams.


• Ability to analyze, generate, and interpret HIM reports, including deficiency tracking and unbilled account monitoring.


• Attention to detail and ability to handle sensitive patient information with confidentiality and professionalism.

Licenses and Certifications

• RHIT - Registered Health Information Technician preferred or


• RHIA - Registered Health Information Administrator preferred
