Job summary

The University of Miami Health System (UHealth) is seeking a full-time HIM Technician 1 in Miami, FL to support the upkeep of patient electronic health records, ensuring accurate medical data across past medical history, labs, imaging and hospital records to facilitate efficient visits.

Responsibilities include reconciling, preparing, scanning and indexing documents according to policy, maintaining timely access for patients and providers, and covering at least one satellite facility as needed.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Preferred RHIA or RHIT.
• Minimum 6 months of relevant experience.
• Microsoft Office applications.
• Electronic Health Records (EHR) system.
• Computer proficiency.
• Knowledge of medical terminology preferred.
• Ability to speak, read, write and follow written and oral instructions.
• Must possess a high accuracy rate and organizational skills.
• Proficient in typing and spelling.
• Maintain compliance with HIPAA requirements and patient confidentiality.
• Any relevant education, certifications and/or work experience may be considered.

Responsibilities

• Maintains daily workflow, ensuring that documents are acquired, prepared, and scanned in a timely and efficient manner to avoid delay in availability to the Electronic Health Record.
• Retrieves prior day discharge/visit documentation from assigned units daily in an expedient, efficient manner, and places the records in the appropriate area for reconciliation and prepping.
• Receive and process patient records following discharge, prep all documents, remove staples, paper clips, sticky notes, and tape torn/damaged documents.
• Prepares all documents in number order and copies severely damaged documents for scanning.
• Scans documents and images into the Electronic Health System and indexes them to the correct patient, encounter, and document type.
• Ensure timely processing of electronic files from multifunction devices or email according to procedures.
• Able to provide coverage to at least 1 Satellite facility.
• Achieves and maintains departmental quality and productivity expectations.
