Job description

Join the dedicated Health Information Management (HIM) team at Santiam Hospital & Clinics as our new HIM Specialist. In this role, you will be the first point of contact for patients, providing exceptional customer service over the phone, guiding patients through the process of requesting their health records. Your excellent communication skills and friendly demeanor will ensure patients feel supported and valued as they navigate their healthcare information. In addition, you will also review documents, post-discharge deficiency analysis and perform other duties as assigned.

This is aPRN (as-needed)position, and hours will fluctuate based on departmental staffing requirements.

What You’ll Do
  • Responsible for the release of information to requestors in accordance with Federal, State, and Hospital rules and regulations.
  • Perform concurrent or post-discharge deficiency analysis of inpatient, observation patient, and same-day surgery patient health information records.
  • Interpret, respond to, and assist with requests for protected health information.
  • Conduct patient record review that pertains to Hospital Performance Improvement.
  • Index records.
  • Review documents, which have been dictated with intent for recording inclusion, for errors in grammar, punctuation, and spelling, and correct such errors before submission for such inclusion.
  • Perform other duties assigned by Health Information Management Manager or Revenue and Reimbursement Executive Director.
What You’ll Need
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Coursework/Training in Health Information Management or completion of a RHIT (Registered Health Information Technician) certification.
  • Previous experience in customer service, ideally within a hospital, clinic, or other healthcare setting.
  • Prior experience in medical records, clerical, or administrative support is often preferred or required.
  • Aptitude of verbal and written communication, including ability to communicate with people from all age groups
  • Possession of United States proof of citizenship or right to work in the United States
  • Possession of a valid, state-issued driver's license or identification card.
  • Willingness to participate in Hospital orientation and educational in-service
