Job summary

Harris Health in Houston seeks a Health Information Technician to ensure clinical documents are scanned and uploaded to patient records within 48 hours, safeguarding records and HIPAA compliance.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required; RHIA preferred.
  • RHIA certification preferred to demonstrate expertise.
  • 4 years of experience in Medical Records or related healthcare area preferred.
  • Bilingual skills preferred to assist diverse patient populations.
  • Strong communication with proficiency in MS Office applications.

Responsibilities

  • Scan and upload clinical documents to the patient's Medical Records within 48 hours of receipt.
  • Ensure patient records are safeguarded and meet HIPAA standards; maintain original Medical Record numbers.
  • Answer and transfer incoming calls; greet and assist with disclosure of patient records to requestors.
  • Assist with data entry, filing, and retrieval of patient paper medical records.

Job Summary

This position will be working with ACS, Correctional Center, and hospital locations to ensure that: clinical documents are scanned and/or uploaded to the patient's Medical Record within 48 hours of receipt; patient records are safeguarded and meet compliance and HIPAA Standards; and documents are managed to ensure that records and Medical Record numbers are maintained in their original conditions. Also, responsible for answering and transferring incoming calls; greeting and assisting with disclosing patient medical records to requestors; and assisting with data entry, filing, and retrieval of patient paper medical records.

Minimum Qualifications
  • School Education: High School Diploma (Or) GED-High School Equivalency
  • Licenses & Certifications: Reg Health Information Technician or RHIA certification (Preferred)
  • Work Experience: Four (4) years of experience in Medical Records or Related healthcare area (Preferred)
  • Language Skills: Bilingual skills preferred
  • Communication Skills: Above Average Verbal (Heavy Public Contact), Writing /Correspondence, Writing /Reports
  • Proficiencies: MS (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)
  • Job Attributes

  • Work Schedule: Weekends, Holidays, Flexible, Overtime, Travel; Might be required to travel to other Health Information Management sites to assist with coverage.
