Job summary

Northwell Health is seeking an HIM Specialist to ensure timely processing and completion of hospital-based medical records. You will retrieve, prep, scan, index, and conduct quality checks on discharge records, ensuring accuracy and compliance.

Minimum HS diploma with 1–2 years in health information management; an A.A. in HIM is preferred. RHIA/RHIT is a plus, with strong EMR system knowledge and teamwork skills.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma and 1–2 years in Health Information Management or related setting.
• Associate’s Degree in HIM or related field is preferred but not required.
• RHIA or RHIT certification preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

• Retrieves, prepares, and assembles permanent record documents for scanning in the required order.
• Scans documents and maintains image quality per dept. procedures.
• Indexes documents manually if automated indexing fails.
• Performs quality control review and corrects errors.
• Identifies serious quality issues and takes corrective action.
• Performs record review to ensure compliance with hospital rules and regs.
