Job summary

Guidehouse Inc. seeks a senior medical coder to analyze documentation, assign accurate codes, and educate staff. You will review records flagged by SMART software and serve as a technical expert for clinicians, managers, and external customers.

Requirements include a university degree, 5+ years of relevant experience, RHIA/RHIT/CCS/CPC certification, a strong outpatient coding background, and at least two years of people leadership. Knowledge of EPIC, Cerner, Solventum, PwC SMART is a plus.

Qualifications

• Requires a University Degree with 5+ years of relevant experience (or equivalent).
• CertifiedRHIA/RHIT/CCS/CPC credentials required or in progress.
• Senior outpatient coding experience including E/M charging and audits.
• Must maintain credentials throughout employment.
• Minimum of two years of people leadership experience.

Responsibilities

• Assist coders and documentation staff with complex cases by analyzing documentation and assigning correct codes.
• Review medical records flagged by SMART for patterns of coding errors and education opportunities.
• Serve as a technical expert/resource for management, staff, physicians, and external customers on coding standards and regulatory requirements.
• Perform other duties as assigned by management.

What You Will Do:

• Assists coders, compliant documentation management staff, and the Internal Revenue Integrity team with complex patient care cases by analyzing documentation and discussing correct code assignment.
• Reviews medical records flagged through the SMART (Inpatient and Outpatient tools) software for patterns of coding errors and opportunities for coder and /or clinical education.
• Serves as a technical expert/resource for department manager, staff, physicians, administrative, and external customers to provide information or clarification accurate and ethical coding and documentation standards, guidelines and regulatory requirements.
• Performs other duties as assigned by management.

What You Will Need:

• Requires a University Degree and minimum 5 years of prior relevant experience; (Relevant experience may be substituted for formal education or advanced degree).
• Currently certified as a Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA), Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) or Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), or Certified Professional Coder (CPC).
• A strong outpatient coding background at a senior level including coding of outpatient/inpatient charts, E/M charging, injection and infusions charging, as well as data management and coder audit and education experience.
• Must maintain credential throughout employment.
• A minimum of two years of people leadership experience is required

What Would Be Nice to Have:

• Experience working in any of the following systems: EPIC, Cerner, Solventum, and PwC SMART.
• Knowledge of Anatomy, Physiology and Medical Terminology

The annual salary range for this position is $68,000.00-$113,000.00. Compensation decisions depend on a wide range of factors, including but not limited to skill sets, experience and training, security clearances, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs.
