Job summary

UNC Health in Chapel Hill, NC is seeking a Hospital Records Technician to process and maintain patient medical records, including filing, retrieval, and distribution according to established priorities and procedures in a medical records department. Work is on-site with standard 40-hour weeks.

The role supports the HIM Operations unit, and compensation ranges from $18.48 to $25.89 per hour, determined by experience and equity.

Qualifications

High school diploma or GED required; higher-level degree may satisfy.
One year of clerical experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
Demonstrated ability to successfully manage multiple tasks simultaneously.

Responsibilities

Maintains record filing and electronic systems per procedures and regulations.
Performs concurrent scanning rounding on hospital units daily.
Monitors, reconciles, and audits paper-based and electronic medical records; batches, indexes, analyzes for quality and maintains EHRs.
Identifies scanning and indexing errors with timely correction.
Retrieves, delivers, and coordinates delivery of patient records for release, research, or provider requests.
Analyzes bedded/ER/outpatient/ambulatory surgery records for chart completion and provider assistance as needed.
Monitors completion activities of suspended physicians and generates incomplete record notices.
Releases approved documents as the legal medical record.
