Job summary

Richmond & Wandsworth Better Service Partnership is seeking a hands-on Supervisor to lead the Highways DSO, manage day-to-day operations, and represent the service with external bodies. You will provide visible, motivating leadership to staff and help deliver high-quality highway services to residents.

You will supervise operatives, agency staff and contractors, oversee routine and non-routine maintenance and installations, authorise expenditure within delegated limits, conduct site inspections,

Qualifications

• Valid driving licence and NRSWA supervisory level (or obtain within 6 months).
• Proven experience in supervising a workforce and driving high productivity.
• Experience in risk assessments and implementing improvements.
• Experience in daytime/out-of-hours emergencies and winter procedures.
• Strong oral/written communication and IT skills (Word/PowerPoint/Excel).

Responsibilities

• Provide effective supervision of operatives, agency staff, and contractors.
• Oversee routine and non-routine maintenance and installation works across borough roads.
• Authorise expenditure and manage resources within delegated limits.
• Carry out daily site inspections; ensure safety, cost-effectiveness, and quality.
• Supervise winter gritting operations and out-of-hours activities as needed.
• Ensure compliance with NRSWA, LoPS, and health and safety requirements.
• Support management in responding to Members’ enquiries and service delivery.
