Job summary

State of Indiana seeks a Highway Technician for the Martinsville Unit to perform general highway maintenance, keep roads clean and safe, and support winter operations. The role includes mandatory overtime for emergencies and CDL requirements within 90 days.

The position offers entry-level opportunities, competitive pay, and comprehensive state benefits. CDL training is provided onsite, with additional pay for CDL endorsements where applicable.

Qualifications

• Must possess a valid Class A or Class B CDL or obtain one within 90 days of employment.
• Pass and submit to a drug test as a condition of employment.
• Ability to lift 50 pounds.
• Ability to perform physical activities such as lifting, dragging, stooping, standing, and walking long periods.
• Must be able to endure exposure to inclement weather.
• Operate specialty traffic equipment (bucket trucks, paint equipment, etc.).
• Follow directions and work as part of a team.

Responsibilities

• Comply with INDOT safety policies and procedures.
• Operate basic highway maintenance and traffic equipment to maintain roads.
• Move and load supplies and materials.
• Perform winter operations including snow and ice removal.
• Perform emergency response activities: traffic control, lane closures, signs, barricades.
• Perform routine inspections and basic equipment maintenance.
