Job summary

The South Dakota Department of Transportation (SDDOT) in Highmore, SD is hiring a Highway Maintenance Worker for a full-time, year-round roster. The role involves keeping state highways safe, performing roadway maintenance, installing signs, and assisting in winter operations.

Work schedules vary: May–Sept 10-hour days, four days/week; Oct–Apr 8-hour days, Mon–Fri. CDL with tanker endorsement required within 120 days; Class A may be needed for certain vehicles.

Qualifications

• Experience operating heavy equipment or heavy construction preferred.
• Valid driver license and ability to obtain Class A CDL within 120 days; tanker and N endorsements may be required.

Responsibilities

• Perform roadway maintenance and roadside activities.
• Install and replace signs, traffic control devices, and pavement markings.
• Maintain and repair guardrail systems and department facilities.
• Respond to emergencies and inclement weather; operate a variety of equipment.
