Job summary

The Montana Department of Transportation (MDT) is recruiting a Maintenance Technician for the Opheim Section. The role encompasses laborer duties, lead work, and operation of trucks and heavy equipment for highway maintenance, including culvert work, landslide removal, sealing, fence and bridge tasks, guardrail and sign installation, luminaire maintenance, and snow/ice control.

Qualifications

• Valid Montana Commercial Operators License (Class A, Type II) with tank endorsement and MEC.
• Learner’s permit holders have 30 days to obtain the license.
• One year of experience driving heavy trucks or operating construction equipment (Tech I).
• Additional one year of documented experience for Tech II or three+ years for Tech III.

Responsibilities

• Operate trucks and heavy equipment for highway maintenance.
• Perform culvert placement, landslide removal and crack/mastic sealing.
• Engage in fence building, bridge repair, guardrail/sign installation, and luminaire maintenance.
• Conduct roadway repair, vegetation and roadside maintenance, and pavement marking/striping.
• Support snow and ice control operations.
