Job Requirements

1. Performs snow and ice clearance by plowing and applying chlorides, salt, and brine.
2. Performs highway maintenance tasks including winter maintenance activities, operating asphalt maintenance equipment, hauling materials, grading shoulders, filling cracks, signing, sweeping, mowing, concrete repair, patching holes, asphalt patches, line painting, erecting/dismantling snow fences, painting and maintaining guard rails, clearing roadways and rights-of-ways of debris, drainage ditch and culvert cleaning, culvert replacements, landscaping, and bridge repair.
3. Handles traffic-related duties such as erecting signs, barricades, traffic control devices, and flagging.
4. Performs mechanical work and routine maintenance on equipment and vehicles.
5. Maintains facilities and offices, and may operate heavy equipment.
6. Responds to emergencies and is subject to call at all times for snow removal and other situations.
7. Maintains records, coordinates materials, and prepares reports.
8. Oversees the Sign Inventory and implements necessary changes.
9. Possesses ability to operate or learn to operate heavy equipment such as trucks, graders, snowplows, loaders, and other maintenance tools.
10. Demonstrates knowledge of traffic laws, safety regulations, and EPA regulations related to highway maintenance.
11. Performs manual labor in all weather conditions, with capability for minor mechanical repairs and routine preventative maintenance.
12. Organizes and maintains accurate records and reports.
13. Works effectively with co-workers and supervisors, demonstrating reliability and flexibility, especially in adverse weather.
14. Thorough knowledge of painting methods, tools, and equipment for center striping, with ability to learn traffic control device standards and blueprints.
