Job summary

The State of South Carolina seeks a Highway Maintenance Worker to perform skilled maintenance tasks along highways and bridges. You will operate small equipment, assist in mowing, debris removal, and traffic control within work zones.

Qualifications

• A valid motor vehicle operator's license is required.
• Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) must be obtained within six months of placement.
• Physical effort includes lifting up to 50 lbs and endurance for long periods in outdoor environments.

Responsibilities

• Operate small equipment (dump trucks, snow plows, spreaders, forklifts) on mowing and maintenance tasks.
• Clear grass/trees, mow, remove debris, and manage right-of-way areas along highways.
• Assist maintenance crews, perform daily equipment checks, and document work performed.
• Set up and flag traffic in work zones and conduct pre-trip safety inspections.
