Job summary

Montana Department of Transportation is seeking a Highway Maintenance Technician in Billings to perform labor, lead work, and operate trucks and heavy equipment for routine highway maintenance. The role includes preop checks, service, and basic vehicle maintenance as part of a career ladder in the MDT Maintenance Academy.

The position offers union support with AFSCME and requires a MT Class A Type II CDL with endorsements. Relocation assistance may be offered within 45 road miles of the section.

Qualifications

• One year experience driving heavy trucks and operating construction equipment.
• Knowledge of highway maintenance and basic vehicle maintenance.
• Must have Montana Class A Type II CDL with air brake and tanker endorsements; Class B encouraged for apply; learner's permit applicants welcome to apply.

Responsibilities

• Operate a variety of maintenance equipment and trucks for highway work.
• Perform ditch cleaning, patching, overlays, fence repairs, mowing, transportation of materials and equipment.
• In winter, load sanding material and perform snow removal and sanding.
