Job summary

Oregon Department of Transportation in Mitchell is seeking a Transportation Maintenance Specialist 2 to join the Highway Maintenance team. You will operate heavy and light equipment to maintain roadways, bridges and structures, support weather-related emergencies, and perform routine repairs and cleanup to ensure safe travel for Oregon's roadways.

The role involves working in diverse conditions, potential after-hours duties for emergencies, and contributing to a safe multimodal transportation

Responsibilities

• Operate heavy and light equipment and tools to maintain roadways, bridges, and structures.
• Assist with weather-related emergencies and operate snowplows, deicer trucks and other equipment to clear snow from roadways.
• Perform minor surface repairs including pothole and concrete patching and small inlay work.
• Maintain and repair fences, guardrails, concrete barriers and milepost markers.
• Clear debris, vegetation, mow grass and spray roadside vegetation.
• Maintain drainage systems, dig and clean ditches and repair culverts, inlets and erosion.
• Maintain wooded areas including replanting, pruning, thinning or trimming trees and groundcover.
• Service and repair tools and motorized equipment; perform minor maintenance including janitorial work, landscaping, painting and light carpentry.
• Be prepared for exposure to noise, extreme heights, all weather conditions, heavy equipment, pesticides and hazardous waste materials; capable of moving around rough terrain and lifting up to 60 pounds.

A Day In The Life
