Job summary

The Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) is seeking a dependable Highway Maintenance Worker to join our Clarkston, WA team. In this journey‑level role, you will work outdoors maintaining state highways, equipment, and adjacent right of way, operating a range of highway maintenance tools and vehicles to keep Washington’s transportation system safe and reliable.

Qualifications

Journey-Level highway & roadway maintenance experience on highways, roadways and related infrastructure.
Skilled in operating and maintaining heavy equipment such as loaders, mowers, sweepers, and trucks.
Ability to work in a team and lead a crew in the absence of a supervisor.
CDL with N endorsement (Class B) and ability to obtain Class A within 12 months; CDL Medical card required.

Responsibilities

Operate highway maintenance equipment, trucks, tools, and vehicles to perform maintenance and repairs.
Repair and maintain pavement, drainage, signs, guardrails, and roadside infrastructure.
Perform vegetation management, erosion control, debris removal, and litter removal.
Operate snow and ice control equipment and hauling materials to keep roadways safe.
Set up and maintain traffic control, flags, lane closures, and attenuator operations.
Inspect and perform minor repairs on maintenance equipment, vehicles, and tools.
Respond to emergencies and coordinate with partner agencies as needed.
Provide work direction and on-the-job training when serving in a lead capacity.
