Job description

The Pepin County Highway Department is recruiting a full-time Highway Operator. This position performs skilled work of a varied nature in the operation of all types of motorized equipment; does related work as required under the supervision of the Working Foremen.

Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Operates heavy equipment, such as motor graders, dozers, and multi-axle dump trucks;
2. Plows, salts and sands county, town, and state roads;
3. Vegetation control, such as mowing along roadways and cutting brush;
4. Cleans culverts and maintains bridges as needed;
5. Performs minor repairs and maintenance to equipment;
6. Must be available for call-in for winter snow and ice removal and other emergency and non-emergency situations.

Minimum Qualifications:

1. Must have a valid Wisconsin Class A, B and C Commercial Driver’s License with air brake, and “N” (tank) endorsement preferred, and good driving record.
2. Must complete Pre-employment Drug Test and will be included in pool of random drug testing thereafter.

Compensation:

The 2025 Wage scale for the position is dependent on experience for $24.04 – $27.47 per hour. This is a full-time position scheduled Monday through Thursday with a complete benefit package including Wisconsin Retirement.
