Job summary

GFT in Schaumburg, IL seeks a Highway Engineer / Project Manager to lead roadway and bridge design projects within the Transportation Team. The role centers on managing Phase I and II efforts, coordinating with consultants and IDOT, and delivering compliant plans and specifications.

The ideal candidate has 5+ years of field or design experience with IDOT or similar agencies, strong communication, and a commitment to inclusive teamwork. Hybrid work includes in-office attendance in Schaumburg.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering or related field from an ABET-accredited university.
• Minimum of 5 years of related in-field experience, including work directly or as a consultant for IDOT, Illinois Tollway, Chicago DOT, Cook County DOT & Highways, local counties and municipalities, and Federally funded projects.
• E.I.T. certificate.
• Strong technical skills with excellent verbal and written communication abilities; ability to work in a multi-disciplinary team environment.
• Experience leading projects, coordinating, and inspecting roadway work in field or design.
• Illinois Driver's License.
• Ability to consider multiple perspectives when solving problems and to collaborate with peers to share knowledge.

Responsibilities

• Provide direction to Project Engineers and Staff Engineers on expected results.
• Analyze information and data to perform routine design tasks.
• Make decisions independently on engineering problems and represent the organization in meetings to resolve important questions and coordinate work.
• Present projects to the public and clients.
• Ensure accuracy of engineering design and plans, quality presentation, thoroughness, and conformance to budgets, schedules, and company standards.
• Review design options and document findings from the design team.
• Manage workload and changes in project schedule, scope, or additional services.
• Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing publications, networking, and participating in professional societies.
