Job summary

Modjeski and Masters seeks an Entry Level Highway Engineer in New Orleans to start a career with a leading bridge engineering firm.

You'll work on highway design projects, interact with clients, and contribute to life-cycle maintenance on transportation structures with mentorship from senior engineers.

Qualifications

• BS in Civil Engineering from an ABET accredited college/university.
• EI certification (or in the process of obtaining).
• Knowledge of design guidelines and policies including AASHTO, MUTCD, FHWA design guides, and state DOT policies.

Responsibilities

• Perform non-structural engineering tasks and develop plans, specifications, and cost estimates under supervision.
• Design highway aspects including geometrics, drainage, signage, striping, intersections, and TMPs.
• Develop conceptual plans for Feasibility Studies.
• Assist with statements of interest and technical proposals; review design calculations and drawings.
• Produce contract plan details using CAD software; communicate in English.

Job Details: Level: Entry, Job Location: New Orleans LA - New Orleans, LA, Position Type: Full Time, Salary Range: Undisclosed, The New Orleans, LA office of Modjeski and Masters is seeking Entry Level Highway Engineers. As a Highway Design Engineer with Modjeski and Masters, you will work on a variety of challenging and rewarding bridge engineering projects for a myriad of transportation clients. What We’re Looking For

• At minimum a BS in Civil Engineering from an ABET accredited College or University
• A valid EI certification, or in the process of obtaining
• Ability to learn and correctly apply relevant design guidelines and policies, including:
• AASHTO: A Policy on Geometric Design of Highways and Streets
• Roadside Design Guide
• Guide for Planning, Design and Operation of Pedestrian Facilities
• Guide for the Development of Bicycle Facilities
• Federal Highway Administration’s (FHWA) Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD)
• State DOT specific Highway Design Policies and Guidelines

What You’ll Do

• Coordinate with technical staff in performing a variety of non-structural engineering tasks, including the development of plans, specifications, and cost estimates, under direct guidance from Project Managers and senior-level engineers.
• Highway Design, including but not limited to roadway geometrics, drainage, permanent signage and striping, intersections, work zone traffic control, guardrail layouts, and Transportation Management Plans (TMPs).
• Develop conceptual plans for Feasibility Studies.
• Perform additional duties as assigned, including occasional field assignments and assistance with statements of interest and technical/price proposals
• Review and check standard highway design calculations and drawings.
• Develop contract plan details using CAD software.
• Communicate effectively in English both orally and in writing.
• Provide technical writing for design reports and feasibility studies.
• Perform and check quantity take-offs from contract plans.
• Coordinate with Teaming Subconsultants for topographic and property survey, geotechnical services, traffic analysis and environmental permitting.
• Use engineering CAD and analysis software such as Bentley MicroStation/InRoads/OpenRoads, AutoTurn, LADOTD’s Hydrologic and Hydraulic Programs (HydroWIN), HEC-HMS and HEC-RAS.
