Job description

GAI Consultants is seeking an Engineer 3 with a bachelor's degree (or foreign equivalent) in Civil Engineering and a Pennsylvania PE license (or the ability to secure a PA PE license), along with a minimum of eight (8) years of post-baccalaureate, progressively responsible experience in Civil Engineering. Potential work locations include offices in Cranberry or Homestead, PA. Responsibilities involve developing, coordinating, and managing highway design efforts, as well as preparing construction plans, right-of-way plans, specifications, and project estimates.

Specific Duties:
  1. Assist the Project Manager with all engineering project aspects; maintain quality standards; mentor lower-level staff.
  2. Develop and oversee scopes, budgets, and schedules; supervise staff; maintain procedures; assist with project financials.
  3. Design development, review, and management; highway geometry design using CAD software (MicroStation, OpenRoads); hydrologic and hydraulic analyses; check deliverables for technical completeness and compliance.
  4. Serve as a Task Manager on small projects if applicable.

  1. Apply broad knowledge of principles and practices in civil engineering.
  2. Evaluate, select, and adapt standard techniques and procedures.
  3. Lead moderately complex tasks and projects.
  4. Develop plans, specifications, and project documents.
  5. Analyze risks using engineering economics, probability, and statistics.
Experience and Education:
  • 8+ years of experience.
  • B.S. or M.S. in Engineering.
  • PE license with reciprocity in multiple states.
Technical and Management Responsibilities:
  • Assign tasks, plan, and coordinate engineering work.
  • Prepare scopes, budgets, and schedules.
  • Assist with proposals and funding efforts.
  • Receive guidance on objectives and policy matters.
  • Mentor team members and demonstrate professional attitudes.
Communication Skills:
  • Advanced oral and written communication skills.
  • Consider stakeholder needs.
  • Lead meetings and represent the organization.
  • Develop leadership through effective communication and teamwork.
