Job summary

CDM Smith in the United States is seeking a Task Leader to oversee highway design projects and stay hands-on while growing into broader leadership. The position can be based in Boston, MA; East Hartford, CT; or Manchester, NH, with hybrid work flexibility.

You will mentor junior engineers, review designs for compliance, and collaborate with project managers to deliver quality, on-time results. Travel up to 10% may be required; opportunity to advance within the transportation practice.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil, Transportation, or Structural Engineering or related discipline.
• Professional engineering (PE) license.
• 10 years of related experience.
• Domestic and/or international travel may be required.

Responsibilities

• Lead the technical delivery of highway design tasks from concept through PS&E.
• Develop and review roadway alignments, design criteria, construction plans, specifications, and cost estimates.
• Provide day-to-day technical oversight to ensure quality, schedule, and budget objectives are met.
• Mentor and review work performed by junior engineers; provide technical guidance and support.
• Collaborate with Project Managers and Project Technical Leaders on complex DOT projects.
• Review designs for compliance with federal, state, and local standards; sign and seal documents, as required.
• Perform site reviews and field studies to support constructible, real‑world design solutions.
• Support proposal and task order efforts, including scope development and technical review.
