Job Title: Highway Construction MechanicThe work involves responsibility for performing both skilled and unskilled work in a number of trades while performing the construction and maintenance duties.

An employee operates various types of motor equipment as well as a wide variety of hand and power tools. The work is performed under the general supervision of a higher level supervisor.

Does related work as required.Work Hours: Full Time, 40 hours per week with benefitsSalary: $23.7424-$30.0519/hr (CSEA Union)Location: Cortland County Highway DepartmentStatus: Non-Competitive, ProbationaryBenefits: New York State Retirement System, Low Deductible Health Insurance Plan, Generous Paid Time Off including 13 Paid Holidays, Tuition Assistance available after one year of service, Position is eligible for Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF).MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:Two (2) years of experience in a trade related to operation of construction equipment, highway bridges and road construction and maintenance such as carpentry, masonry, structural steel work, or construction equipment operation.SPECIAL REQUIREMENT: Possession of a valid New York State Class B Commercial Driver's license with air brake required.

Failure to maintain a NYS Class B Driver's license with all required endorsements will result in disciplinary action or dismissal.Pre-employment screenings required.
