Job Summary:

This series exists to provide and preserve a safe and efficient transportation system for the traveling public, while being courteous, considerate, and prompt in serving the public. Positions will be assigned based on experience and qualifications listed below.

Job Duties:

  • Highway Operations Worker: $18.19 Grade 14: Entry-level position involving operation of motorized vehicles and equipment, pavement care, landscape care, roadside shoulder restoration, signing and striping, delivery of equipment and materials, environmental compliance, and vehicle/equipment care.
  • Highway Operations Tech 1: $20.46/hr. Grade 17: Apprentice role with training to perform advanced duties similar to the Highway Operations Worker, including operation of vehicles and equipment, pavement and landscape care, roadside repairs, signing and striping, delivery, environmental compliance, and vehicle care.
  • Highway Operations Tech 2: $22.45/hr. Grade 18: Responsible for intermediate highway operational duties and supervising or leading staff, including scheduling, inspecting, and training.
  • Highway Operations Tech 3: $24.44/hr. Grade 19: Full journey classification with high-level operational or supervisory responsibilities, including overseeing staff and managing complex duties.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs):

  • Highway Operations Worker: 6 months of related experience in roadway/highway work, operating vehicles and equipment, pavement care, signing/striping, roadway operations, tunnel maintenance, or landscape care.
  • Highway Operations Tech 1: 1 year of related experience in similar areas.
  • Highway Operations Tech 2: 2 years of related experience.
  • Highway Operations Tech 3: 3 years of related experience.

Selective Preferences and Requirements:

  • Employees must obtain an Arizona CDL (Class A) permit within 90 days and a full license within 6 months.
  • CDL with tanker endorsement required before start date; additional endorsements may be necessary based on the area.

Pre-Employment Requirements include registration with the FMCSA Drug & Alcohol Clearinghouse, responding to emergency calls, physical ability to lift/carry 50 lbs, and valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record. All new hires must complete E-Verify.
