Job summary

University of Houston seeks a captionist to provide captioning services for higher education classes in the classroom, online, and at events. The role requires typing 60 WPM with captioning software and completion of a captioning program (Typewell, C-Print, or similar) or experience as a court reporter.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of grammar, spelling, punctuation and basic math; HS diploma or GED.
  • Willing to accept education in lieu of experience.
  • Willing to accept experience in lieu of education.
  • University of Houston System security sensitive; criminal history check.

Responsibilities

  • Provide captioning services for in-class, online, and special events.
  • Type 60 WPM using captioning software; complete training in Typewell or C-Print, or be a court reporter.
  • Prepare assignments, deaf consumer relations, proof transcripts, and format transcripts.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
