Job summary

Baton Rouge General is seeking a team-oriented cook who takes pride in quality food preparation and safety. You will work in a fast-paced hospital environment, handling high-volume production and complex dishes to support daily meals and special events.

Qualifications

  • Experience cooking in high-volume quantities (schools, casinos, hospitals, universities, large catering).

Responsibilities

  • Prepare entrees, casseroles, specialty dishes, and complex items requiring multiple steps.
  • Plan and execute food production to meet daily service and special event needs.
  • Cook according to standardized recipes and methods; ensure appealing presentation and taste.
  • Organize workflow for timely distribution to serving units; portion meats and poultry.
  • Maintain sanitation, health, and safety in all prep areas; proper storage of items.

What You Will Do
  • Prepare entrees, casseroles, specialty dishes, and complex food items requiring multiple preparation steps
  • Plan and execute food production to meet daily service and special function needs
  • Cook specialty and complex food items according to standardized recipes and approved cooking methods
  • Utilize creativity and expertise to ensure food is appealing in both presentation and taste
  • Organize and manage workflow to ensure timely food distribution to serving units
  • Carve and portion meats, fish, and poultry for individual servings
  • Portion and apportion food according to menus, patient orders, and service requirements
  • Maintain proper sanitation, health, and safety standards in all food preparation areas
  • Ensure correct storage, handling, and holding of food items, including leftovers
  • Safely and appropriately use kitchen equipment
  • Perform all other duties as assigned
  • Adhere to all HIPAA regulations applicable to the position
  • Follow all safety practices including proper use of PPE, hand hygiene, incident reporting, waste handling, and exposure control procedures
  • Proactively report safety concerns, errors, or potential risks
