Job summary

North Georgia EMC seeks a Substation Technician to support maintenance, testing and repair of high voltage equipment. You will operate bucket trucks, collect oil samples, and assist in restoring power under challenging conditions.

The position requires a high school diploma and an associate degree or approved apprenticeship, plus a Georgia Class A CDL and DOT cert within 6 months. You may pursue crane and ITS certs within 6 months.

Qualifications

  • High school graduate.
  • Associate degree in pre-engineering, electric studies, or related program; OR the completion of an electrical apprentice program; OR 5 years of specific job-related experience.
  • Must have the ability to acquire and maintain a valid Georgia commercial driver's license (Class A) and DOT certification within 6 months of being in the position.
  • Employee is expected to become a certified mobile crane operator, progress and complete NGEMC Substation Technician Program, and attain ITS certification within 6 months of being in the position.

Responsibilities

  • Safely operate near voltages up to 230,000 volts.
  • Test, repair and maintain transformers (single and three phase).
  • Test, program and maintain reclosers, regulators and capacitor controls.
  • Perform monthly inspections of substations and down line equipment.
  • Perform quarterly industrial substation inspections.
  • Inspect and maintain substation batteries quarterly.
  • Repair, maintain and warehouse Power Delivery functions.
  • Accumulate retired transformers for recycling.
  • Assist with Environmental and Regulatory compliance.
  • Assist in restoration of power outages as directed.
  • Collect oil samples for transformers and regulators.
  • Clean up oil spills and other spills.
  • Maintain and test oil-filled and gas-filled equipment.
  • Test, service and install SCADA equipment.
  • Conduct infrared scanning of substation equipment.
  • Maintain accurate record keeping.
  • Assist in Apparatus Shop as needed.
  • Other tasks and duties as assigned.
