Job summary

South Burlington School District (VT) is seeking a part-time Tutor at South Burlington High School in South Burlington, Vermont. The role provides intensive tutoring aligned to a curriculum developed by the school, with emphasis on building study skills and ongoing assessment.

Under supervision, you will work with teachers and staff to support student success, maintain records, and participate in IEP processes as needed.

Qualifications

• Associate’s Degree in education or equivalent preferred.
• One or more years relevant experience required.
• Ability to provide lessons based on content and school objectives and with the needs and abilities of assigned students in mind.
• Knowledge of special education regulations to participate in IEP teams and implement IEP accommodations and goals.

Responsibilities

• Presents subject matter to students under the director and guidance of teachers, using learning tools, discussion, and/or technology.
• Provides academic assistance to assigned students, individually or in small groups to master assignments and reinforce learning concepts.
• Adapts tutoring to fit the capabilities of the assigned student, according to their IEP.
• Maintains professional interactions with students, parents and staff.
• Working with the teacher or case manager to provide student services.
• Help students develop positive attitudes towards learning and studying.
• Enable students to take responsibility for their actions and develop coping skills.
• Serve as a positive role model for appropriate student behavior.
• Collaborate with the student’s teacher/Special Educator to ensure services via IEP accommodations.
• Reviewing and comprehending the IEP process and accommodations; adjust tutoring plans accordingly.
• Evaluating students' academic and personal growth.
• Keeping accurate records and preparing periodic assessments.
• Participating in assigned students’ IEP meetings as requested.
• May perform other responsibilities as assigned.
