Job description


  • Provide students with appropriate learning activities and experiences in the assigned academic subject area

  • Develop and implement lesson plans aligned with the district curriculum program

  • Prepare lessons accommodating differences in student learning styles

  • Present subject matter according to Texas Education Agency guidelines, board policies, and administrative regulations

  • Plan and use instructional strategies, activities, materials, equipment, and technology

  • Assess student learning styles and achievement through formal and informal testing

  • Modify curricula for special education students according to Individual Education Plans

  • Collaborate with staff to determine instructional goals, objectives, and methods

  • Plan and supervise teacher aides and volunteers

  • Help students improve study methods and habits

  • Assume assigned extracurricular responsibilities and sponsor approved outside activities

  • Create and maintain a classroom environment conducive to learning

  • Manage student behavior according to the Student Code of Conduct and student handbook

  • Protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities

  • Conduct conferences with parents, students, principals, and teachers

  • Maintain professional relationships with colleagues, students, parents, and community members

  • Participate in staff development, faculty meetings, and staff committees

  • Maintain required physical and computerized reports, records, and documents

  • Comply with state, district, and school regulations and policies


Requirements


  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited university

  • Valid Texas teaching certificate with required endorsements or required training for the assigned subject and level

  • Demonstrated competency in the assigned academic subject area

  • Knowledge of the assigned academic subject

  • General knowledge of curriculum and instruction

  • Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior

  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills

  • Ability to maintain emotional control under stress

  • Ability to perform frequent standing, stooping, bending, pulling, and pushing

  • Ability to move small stacks of textbooks, media equipment, desks, and other classroom equipment
