Job summary

Qualifications

  • High School Certification: Core Content Special Education is required.

Responsibilities

  • Provide students with disabilities appropriate learning activities and experiences to support educational progress, especially emotional and social skills
  • Develop modified curricula and instructional materials for students' ability levels
  • Collaborate with parents and staff to develop Individualized Education Programs through the ARD/IEP Committee process
  • Develop and implement IEP-aligned lesson plans and accommodations
  • Use technology, including assistive technology, in teaching and learning
  • Participate regularly in ARD/IEP committee meetings
  • Plan and supervise teaching assistant assignments
  • Assess student achievement through formal and informal testing
  • Provide or supervise personal, medical, and feeding care as stated in IEPs
  • Help students develop independence, advocacy, and emotional regulation skills
  • Supervise extracurricular activities as assigned
  • Create a classroom environment appropriate for students' physical, social, and emotional development
  • Implement positive behavioral supports and student restraint as a last resort for safety
  • Communicate with parents, students, service providers, principals, and teachers
  • Maintain required records and reports for District and TEA compliance
  • Participate in professional development, faculty meetings, and staff committees
  • Supervise assigned teaching assistants

Requirements
  • Valid Texas teaching certificate for Special Education

  • Ability to effectively instruct students and manage behavior
  • Ability to work with students with severe and/or multiple impairments
  • Knowledge and experience working with students with emotional and behavioral challenges preferred
  • Physical capability to implement student restraint as a last resort for safety
  • Ability to maintain emotional control under stress
  • Ability to stand, stoop, bend, kneel, push, pull, lift, transfer students to and from wheelchairs, and assist with positioning students with physical disabilities
  • Ability to comply with federal, state, District, and school regulations and policies
  • Ability to maintain student and adult health, safety, and confidentiality
