Job summary

Salem Public Schools, Salem Prep High School, seeks a Special Education Teacher for credit recovery programs for SY 2026-2027. The role requires collaboration with the Special Education Team to engage students and support IEP accommodations.

We value diverse backgrounds and city-wide urban education experience. Salary details are aligned with district contracts; 185-day year with summer hours at the standard hourly rate of $45.00.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree required; Master’s Degree preferred
• Massachusetts teaching certification/licensure in Special Education
• SEI Endorsement required within 1 year of start date
• Meet MA Standards and Indicators of Effective Teaching Practice
• Safety Care trained or willing to be trained
• Engage in ongoing professional growth activities
• Minimum of 2 years teaching in urban public/charter setting preferred
• Tech proficiency with blended learning and communication platforms (Google/GSuite) desirable
• Second Language proficiency (Spanish or Portuguese) a plus
• Bilingual candidates and candidates of color strongly encouraged to apply
• Current authorization to work in the United States

Responsibilities

• Work flexible hours to meet students' schedules, including summer hours
• Provide specialized instruction for credit recovery across all curriculum areas
• Maintain consistent communication and positive student management
• Collaborate with school personnel and parents
• Manage student behavior to ensure a safe and optimal learning environment
• Collaborate with staff to implement IEP accommodations and modifications
• Meet with the special education supervisor as necessary
