Job summary

Battle Mountain High School in Edwards, Colorado is seeking a Special Education Paraprofessional to support Mild/Moderate needs students for 35 hours per week. Starting immediately, the role includes assisting teachers, adapting curriculum, and supporting students in both special and general education settings.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
• Preferred 2 years previous successful experience with children as a Teacher Assistant or equivalent, including 1 year experience with Second Language Acquisition students for bilingual applicants.
• Clerical skills appropriate to duties of position.
• Valid community First Aid and CPR card (or acquire within 6 months of hire).
• Bilingual applicants must demonstrate proficiency in Spanish and English as determined by District assessment.
• Bilingual applicants must have training in Second Language Acquisition or instruction or begin training within 6 months of hire.

Responsibilities

• Provide support in general education settings in order for students to fully participate in class activities with peers.
• Assist special education students by delivering academic instruction within special education and general education settings.
• Assist teachers in adapting the curriculum to students’ individual learning level.
• May assist with administering testing or assessments, may assist with assignments.
• May provide vocational skills by modeling and assisting students with domestic and clerical duties.
