Job summary

Uncommon Schools seeks an HS Science teacher to deliver bold, inquiry-based biology, chemistry, physics, and environmental science instruction to urban students. You will foster student voice, lead lab-based projects, and emphasize evidence-driven discourse in a supportive culture.

You will participate in weekly coaching, PD, and collaborative planning with the science team, while supporting families and maintaining NY certification readiness. Compensation ranges and benefits accompany this role.

Qualifications

  • Commitment to supporting students’ social emotional and academic development.
  • Ability to collaborate with internal and external partners in the best interest of students.
  • Self-directed learner who solicits and implements feedback to improve outcomes.
  • 1-2 years experience in urban K-12 settings preferred.
  • Academic expertise in Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics, or related fields.
  • Bachelor's degree and NY certification eligibility; must enroll in a teacher prep program and maintain a GPA of 2.75+; NY certification within a reasonable period.

Responsibilities

  • Teach Biology, Chemistry, Physics, and Environmental Sciences with AP/college readiness focus.
  • Develop students’ practices skills: questioning, modeling, data analysis, argumentation, labs.
  • Foster an environment for confident student discourse.
  • Facilitate student-led inquiry and discourse with evidence-based claims.
  • Collaborate with Science department to set academic and engagement goals.
  • Engage with families to support students’ learning needs.
