What will you be doing?

  • Maintaining and organizing materials and equipment for lab-based learning in an integrative physical science environment.
  • Applying expertise in the physical sciences (chemistry, physics or applied earth sciences) to support daily inquiry and exploration of real-world phenomena
  • Ensuring mastery of physical science content knowledge for students
  • Participating in school and organization-wide family events
  • Helping coordinate two student showcases (similar to content fair)
  • Providing individual and group instruction designed to meet individual needs and engage scholars in critical thinking, problem-solving, and scientific inquiry
  • Classroom Culture: Model how to be a contributing community member by consistently demonstrating the characteristics of an FA employee with high levels of emotional intelligence and strong listening, communication, and interpersonal skills to foster a sense of belonging and high performance in the classroom
  • Instructional Model: Create a structured and progressive learning experience for high school scholars of varying levels of understanding in physical science, utilizing both theoretical and experimental learning opportunities that are interdisciplinary to build skills and content knowledge across disciplines

What do we require from you?

  • 2+ years of teaching experience in an urban setting preferred
  • Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in Physics, Chemistry, Earth Science, Computer Science/Engineering, or related field
  • You possess or are eligible for NJ certification in Physics, Chemistry, Earth Science, Computer Science/Engineering or secondary education with a physical science endorsement
  • Welcomes the challenge to grow, learn, and improve in a collaborative environment
  • Committed to serving our scholar population in an anti-discriminatory learning environment
  • Semifinalist candidates will be required to provide unofficial transcripts, evidence of certification/eligibility, and 3 professional references
  • Finalist candidates will be required to complete a performance evaluation related to their real-time teaching. This component will include submission of a lesson plan, execution of a live teaching demonstration and in-person interview with the school leadership team.
  • Hired candidates are responsible for providing official transcripts, criminal clearance (fingerprinting), and medical clearance (TB/Mantoux testing)
