JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY

The Massachusetts Academy of Math and Science (Mass Academy) is seeking a Mathematics Teacher. This position involves daily interaction with faculty and direct student instruction. It offers the opportunity to work collaboratively in an advanced secondary school setting emphasizing project-based, interdisciplinary learning.

This is a temporary, one-year employment opportunity.

Job Responsibilities
  1. Teach mathematics (Math Modeling) to a diverse range of 11th-grade students; some may have completed Geometry or Algebra II, others AP Calculus.
  2. Engage students in team project-based learning experiences, including the High School Modeling Contest for Mathematics (HiMCM) and Modeling the Future Challenge, with regular check-ins and feedback.
  3. Differentiate instruction to ensure a rigorous program for all students.
  4. Provide authentic, targeted, and individualized feedback through self-assessments and conferences.
  5. Coordinate accelerated placement at WPI for eligible juniors to take Calculus III/IV; supervise and monitor progress.
  6. Organize math contests and advise the math team.
  7. Serve as a faculty advisor for approximately 10 students.
  8. Maintain curriculum documents for the math modeling course.
  9. Mentor students in research projects.
  10. Participate in recruitment events, orientation, open house, graduation, and other Mass Academy events.
  11. Attend faculty meetings and serve on committees.
  12. Participate in the admissions committee.
  13. Communicate effectively with parents, WPI faculty, and community partners.
  14. Perform other duties as assigned.

Additional responsibilities include offering extracurricular courses, advising students on college essays and resumes, collaborating with community partners, and showcasing student work.

Bachelor's degree required; master's or higher preferred. Massachusetts DESE licensure or ability to meet licensure requirements is required.

Qualified candidates should have a strong mathematics teaching background and demonstrate a passion for culturally responsive teaching. Collaboration skills are essential.

Experience with high school students and mentoring students from diverse backgrounds is preferred. Candidates should embody Mass Academy's mission and values.
