Job summary

Putnam High School is seeking a knowledgeable, patient Math Tutor to help students strengthen their understanding of mathematical skills and concepts, from pre-algebra through pre-calculus. The tutor will work with students individually and in small groups, collaborating closely with classroom teachers to support achievement, confidence, and persistence. The role is part-time with a 12:30 p.m.

– 3:30 p.m. schedule and $40.00 per hour pay.

Qualifications

• Strong background and mastery of high school mathematics from pre-algebra through pre-calculus.
• Prior experience tutoring or working with high school-aged students preferred.
• Exceptional communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills; proficient in using instructional technology.
• Demonstrated patience, dependability, adaptability, and empathy when supporting learners.
• Eligibility to work in a school setting, including successful completion of required checks.

• Targeted Tutoring: Deliver clear, individualized, and small-group math instruction across pre-algebra, algebra, geometry, algebra II, and pre-calculus concepts.
• Instructional Adaptation: Adapt teaching methods and explanations to accommodate diverse learning styles and individual student needs.
• Teacher Collaboration: Work in partnership with high school math teachers to align tutoring sessions with classroom curriculum and learning goals.
• Technology Integration: Utilize educational technology and online resources to enhance student learning and engagement.
• Student Engagement: Build positive, encouraging relationships with high school students to build confidence and promote academic perseverance.
