Job summary

Ombudsman Educational Services is seeking a Long-Term Substitute Math Teacher for our Alternative Education program in Illinois. You will design and deliver math instruction, create structured lesson plans, and maintain a supportive learning environment for at-risk students.

You will collaborate with staff, track progress, and adapt curriculum to meet diverse needs while adhering to state standards and ChanceLight policies.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or higher in education or closely related field.
• IL state substitute teaching credential (current or in process).
• Ability to obtain crisis management training certification.
• Experience with curriculum development, differentiated instruction, and classroom management.
• Experience teaching math at high school level, preferably in alternative/behavioral health program.
• Experience in alternative education for at-risk students.
• Strong task prioritization, organization, and attention to detail.
• Ability to handle emergencies calmly and make independent decisions.
• Proficiency with technology including Microsoft Office and educational software.

Responsibilities

• Designing daily lesson plans and structured classroom schedules aligned with state standards.
• Delivering rigorous, engaging instruction using curriculum resources and edtech to maximize growth.
• Collaborating with teachers and support staff for targeted instructional support.
• Establishing clear behavioral expectations for a safe, structured learning environment.
• Maintaining a firm, fair instructional approach with high expectations.
• Communicating with parents regarding student progress and factors influencing performance.
• Participating in team meetings to align on intervention strategies.
• Monitoring student progress through data and performance metrics.
• Staying current with research-based practices and professional development.
• Modeling professionalism and positivity for students and responding to feedback.
