Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED.

Kamehameha Schools Hawaiʻi Campus is seeking a highly organized, collaborative, and service-oriented High School Library Assistant to support one of the most dynamic learning spaces on campus. More than a library, our Learning Center is a welcoming hub where haumana (students) are empowered to explore their interests, strengthen their academic skills, and build meaningful relationships rooted in ìke Hawaiʻi (Hawaiian knowledge) and a culture of belonging.

In this role, you will oversee the daily operations of the Learning Center, support haumāna and kumu with library resources and instructional needs, maintain library collections and equipment, and help create an engaging, organized, and student-centered environment where every learner feels welcomed, valued, and inspired to grow.

Job Summary

Under the immediate direction of the librarian, is responsible for overseeing the daily operation of the Learning Center, which includes overseeing the circulation desk, maintaining the library collection, providing assistance to teachers and students with locating appropriate materials and periodicals; and maintaining an accurate inventory of equipment and books. Provides support for the library program.

Essential Responsibilities
  • Oversees, coordinates, organizes, and monitors the library technical services functions-equipment inventory, maintenance, collection inventory, and organization.
  • Uses the library’s automated system to coordinate and process purchase requisitions for books, periodicals and supplies, to search and verify bibliographic information and to contact vendors.
  • Assists students and faculty in locating and retrieving information from a variety of databases. Also assists in the preparation of instructional materials.
  • Receives and processes claims for periodicals, and handles library correspondence meaning responding, drafting response.
  • Uses the acquisition and cataloging modules to maintain the accounting and budgetary system.
  • Coordinates repair and maintenance of facilities and equipment’s.
  • Prepares reports and records-inventory, project proposals, and bibliographies.
  • Assists librarians, and in their absence, assumes responsibility for maintaining library services.
  • Coordinates and prepares library material for binding, mending, and disposing.
Position Requirements

An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered in lieu of the requirements listed.

Minimum Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Minimum of 1 of year experience in Library Services.
  • Good working knowledge of word processing and spreadsheet software applications.
  • Strong organizational skills to manage multiple functions and priorities in an efficient manner.
  • Excellent oral and writing skills needed to communicate clearly with student, parents, other school staff.
  • Effective interpersonal skills to establish relationships with students, parents and staff.
  • Ability to provide assistance in selecting appropriate library materials for students and staff.
  • Work independently, enforce rules, and resolve problems.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Ability to work with different age groups.
  • Ability to instruct students in the use of computer software/peripherals.
  • Knowledge of computerized library management systems, library terminology and routines. And/or ability to learn and effectively use selected computer programs.
  • Be familiar with literature/enjoy reading and books.
Physical Requirements
  • Frequently sits, perform desk-based computer tasks and grasp light or fine manipulation, talk or hear.
  • Occasionally stand and/or walk, write by hand, and lift and/or carry, push and/or pull objects that weigh up to 10 pounds.
  • Rarely twist, bend, stoop, squat, kneel, crawl, climb, reach or work above shoulder, or grasp forcefully.
Working Conditions
  • This position may involve traveling to various locations, including neighbor islands to conduct business.
  • Work is conducted in an office environment and may require work to be conducted in non-standard workplaces.
  • Work is typically conducted Monday through Friday at normal business hours.

Pay Range: 21.35 – 28.30 Hourly
