Job summary

Sylvania is seeking a passionate head coach for the High School Cross Country program. The role focuses on athlete development, team culture, and strategic planning, working with the athletic director and school staff.

You will lead practices, evaluate performance, organize events, and communicate with families while ensuring safety and compliance with regulations. This stipend position requires First Aid/CPR and availability for evenings and weekends.

Qualifications

• Previous coaching experience in cross country or related sport at high school or youth level preferred.
• Strong knowledge of cross country rules, techniques, and strategies.
• Ability to effectively communicate with athletes, parents, and staff.
• Commitment to fostering a positive and inclusive team culture.
• Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks effectively.
• First Aid and CPR certification required before first practice.
• Availability to attend practices, games, and team events, including evenings and weekends.
• Passion for teaching and mentoring young athletes.

Responsibilities

• Plan and conduct practices, ensuring athletes receive appropriate training and skill development.
• Provide instruction on fundamentals, strategies, and techniques to improve performance.
• Help organize and supervise team activities, including games, practices, and team-building events.
• Monitor and evaluate player performance, giving constructive feedback to aid improvement.
• Promote sportsmanship, teamwork, and a positive attitude among players, coaching staff, and parents.
• Collaborate with the athletic director to develop game plans and strategies for competitions.
• Assist in maintaining team equipment and ensuring safety compliance.
• Communicate with players, parents, and school administration regarding policies, schedules, and progress.
• Attend coaching clinics, workshops, and meetings to stay updated on techniques and regulations.
• Other duties as assigned.

The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of the gcross country, a commitment to the development of student-athletes, and the ability to foster a positive and inclusive team environment. This role will lead as the head coach in various aspects of team management, skill development, and strategy. They will work closely with the athletic director and High School athletic secretary.

Yearly evaluation will be given by the Athletic Director. This position is a stipend position and follows the USCA CBA
