Job summary

Oakland Schools is recruiting a Competitive Cheer Coach for the Southfield A&T site for the 2026-2027 school year. The coach will organize, plan, and lead the cheer program, teaching cheers, stunts, and routines while promoting school spirit and safety.

The role requires prior cheer coaching experience at high school or club level, knowledge of techniques, music editing, and strong leadership and communication skills. Collaboration with athletic staff and parents is essential.

Qualifications

• Prior experience as a cheer coach at the high school or club level or higher required.
• Knowledge of cheer techniques, stunts, and performance skills.
• Ability to demonstrate skills and drills and routines.
• Strong leadership, organization, and communication skills.
• Must be able to supervise and motivate students in a positive manner.
• Experience with music editing and choreography.

Responsibilities

• Plan and conduct practices focused on cheer techniques, stunting, tumbling, and performance.
• Lead the cheer team in promoting school spirit at games, pep rallies, and special events.
• Choreograph routines for halftime shows, assemblies, and competitions.
• Always emphasize safety, particularly during stunts and tumbling activities.
• Promote positive team culture, including sportsmanship, responsibility, and leadership.
• Ensure all participants meet eligibility, academic, and attendance requirements.
• Manage uniforms, equipment, and team fundraising efforts.
• Maintain open and professional communication with student-athletes, parents, and school staff.
• Supervise athletes during all practices, games, competitions, and travel (if applicable).
• Support and enforce all school, district, and league policies.
