Qualifications

• Expert knowledge of the sport being taught.
• Thorough understanding of participants physically, mentally and emotionally.
• Skill in teaching fundamentals of the sport.
• Desirable character and personality traits.
• High moral standards.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with pupils, parents, custodians, officials, staff and administration.
• Thorough knowledge of applicable rules and regulations.
• Available to supervise activities beyond the school day.
• Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Responsibilities

• Plan, coordinate and direct athletic activities as assigned.
• Establish objectives and develop plans to implement them.
• Prioritize participation and friendly competition over win-loss records.
• Coordinate with school leadership to align athletics with the program.
• Provide activities that develop cardio fitness and physical skills.
• Foster leadership, citizenship, self-expression, and discipline through sport.
• Follow rules and policies from the Hammond School Board and associations.
• Manage equipment, budgets, and transportation with the athletic director.
• Ensure eligibility and proper paperwork for participants.
