Position: High School Band Teacher
Reports to: Principal
Employment Type: FLSA Exempt

Position Overview

The High School Band Teacher is responsible for directing and managing the overall band program at the high school level, including marching band, concert band, jazz ensemble, and other instrumental music groups. The teacher will inspire students through musical instruction, performance opportunities, and leadership development, while ensuring the program aligns with Arizona state standards and district goals.

Key Responsibilities
  • Plan, organize, and implement a comprehensive band program including marching band, concert band, and jazz band.
  • Develop lesson plans aligned with Arizona Arts Education Standards.
  • Teach instrumental music and music theory to high school students of varying skill levels.
  • Prepare students for performances, competitions, and community events.
  • Oversee rehearsals, sectionals, and after-school practices as needed.
  • Foster a positive, inclusive, and respectful classroom and rehearsal environment.
  • Maintain inventory and upkeep of instruments, uniforms, and other equipment.
  • Manage band program logistics including travel, fundraising, and event planning.
  • Collaborate with other fine arts staff and school leadership to promote school-wide arts initiatives.
  • Maintain accurate records, including grades, attendance, and student progress.
  • Participate in school and district professional development, meetings, and parent communication.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Music Education or related field. Masters Degree in Music Education preferred.
  • Valid Arizona Teaching Certificate with appropriate Music endorsement.
  • Fingerprint Card issued by Arizona Department of Public Safety (IVP)
  • Knowledge of band literature, rehearsal techniques, and instrumental pedagogy.
  • Proficient in conducting and musical score reading.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Experience working with high school musicians (preferred).
  • Familiarity with music composition software and digital tools
Work Environment & Physical Requirements
  • Ability to stand for extended periods and conduct rehearsals.
  • Must be able to lift and carry instruments and equipment.
  • Work includes evenings and weekends for performances, competitions, and events.
