Job summary

New York City Department of Education is seeking an attentive School Aide to support classrooms and school activities. Under supervision, you will relieve teachers of routine tasks, supervise students in lunch and hallways, and assist with clerical duties and textbook handling.

The role requires strong attendance, ability to stand/walk for long periods, and a capacity to lift up to 10 lbs. Bilingual candidates are preferred in language-need schools, with a focus on safety and teamwork.

Qualifications

• No high school diploma required (GED not required).
• Excellent attendance and punctuality.
• Demonstrated ability to work with supervisors and school staff.
• Demonstrated good human relations and reliability.
• Bilingual candidates may be considered for schools with language needs.
• Able to walk/stand for long periods and lift up to 10 lbs.
• Experience with students, preferably high school-age.

Responsibilities

• Relieve teachers from non-teaching tasks under supervision.
• Supervise lunchroom, hall, and study hall activities.
• Assist with handling, storage, and distribution of textbooks and supplies.
• Perform routine clerical tasks and assist in school administration.
• Assist with bus arrival/departure and student supervision during lunch.
• Ensure orderly lunch service and supervise daily activities.
