Job summary

AmeriCorps & Senior Corps partners with Glenville State University to advance STEM education through First2. Members tutor 6th–8th graders, run weekly workshops, recruit volunteers, and engage communities in STEM pathways. You will deliver K–12 outreach and mentor peers, building leadership and professional skills during the service term.

The program emphasizes rural, first-generation, and low-income students, with a living allowance and education award upon completion.

Qualifications

• Experience working with youth and delivering STEM outreach is preferred.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills demonstrated in volunteer or program settings.
• Ability to organize activities and present STEM topics to diverse audiences.

Responsibilities

• Provide tutoring to 6th–8th grade students, facilitate weekly workshops, recruit and coordinate volunteers.
• Support outreach events and campus clubs related to STEM and college access.
• Deliver outreach presentations in K–12 settings on STEM pathways and careers.
• Complete a minimum of 57 hours of peer mentoring over the service term.
• Support peers with academic content and connect them to campus resources.

High Rocks- First2-Glenville State University

The First2 Network is an expanding group of people and organizations working to increase the number of college graduates in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) to strengthen our communities and drive an innovation economy in West Virginia and beyond. Glenville State University (GSU) is a public, primarily undergraduate university in rural central West Virginia. First2 focuses on rural, first-generation, and low-income STEM students, making sure all ourstudents can succeed.

Member Duties :

• Provide tutoring to 6th–8th grade students, facilitate weekly workshops, recruit and coordinate volunteers, support outreach events.
• Each member will facilitate our Campus Club or Robotics Club meetings per month, supporting planning, coordination, and student engagement in STEM-focused programming.
• They will also serve in a K–12 school system delivering outreach presentations and discussions on STEM pathways, college access, and career exploration.
• In addition, the member will complete a minimum of 57 hours of peer mentoring over theservice term.
• Peer mentoring responsibilities include providing content-areaacademic support to college students, modeling effective study strategies, and connecting peers to campus resources.
• Through these activities,members will support STEM persistence while building leadership and professional skills.
