SLB in Utah is seeking a High Pressure Hydraulics System Engineer to design, test, and improve complex industrial machinery. This hands-on role combines mechanical design with building and validating equipment.
You will spend roughly half your time in the shop supporting assembly, testing, troubleshooting, and design validation, collaborating with engineers, technicians, and manufacturing staff to solve challenging hydraulic problems.
An experienced Mechanical Design Engineer with a strong background in hydraulic systems and mechanical equipment design, and high-pressure equipment. This is a hands-on role for an engineer who enjoys designing, building, testing, and improving complex industrial machinery.
The successful candidate will divide their time between engineering design and hands-on work in the shop, spending approximately 50% of their time supporting equipment assembly, testing, troubleshooting, and design validation. This position requires close collaboration with engineers, technicians, and manufacturing personnel and a willingness to contribute mechanical design expertise on projects led by others.
Experience with high-temperature, high-pressure press systems used in industrial diamond manufacturing or similar extreme-pressure applications is highly desirable.
Design and develop hydraulic and mechanical systems for industrial equipment.
Create detailed 3D models, assemblies, and manufacturing drawings using PTC Creo and AutoCAD.
Perform mechanical analysis, including component sizing, material selection, stress considerations, and design validation.
Develop and evaluate prototypes, perform testing, troubleshoot issues, and implement design improvements.
Provide mechanical design expertise and technical input to support projects led by other engineers.
Collaborate with manufacturing and engineering to solve complex technical problems.
Document engineering designs, revisions, and test results.
Participate in continuous improvement initiatives focused on equipment performance, reliability, and manufacturability.
Collaborative team player with strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Hands-on, practical mindset with a passion for solving real-world engineering challenges.
Self-motivated, organized, adaptable, and capable of managing multiple priorities.
Minimum - Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
Minimum of 5 years of experience designing, developing, and troubleshooting hydraulic systems.
Proficiency with PTC Creo and AutoCAD.
Strong working knowledge of hydraulic components, circuits, valves, pumps, cylinders, and system diagnostics.
Solid understanding of material properties, mechanical strength, stress analysis, and engineering design principles.
Strong analytical problem-solving skills.
Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a collaborative engineering team.
Experience with high-temperature, high-pressure press systems, particularly those used in industrial diamond or similar manufacturing processes.
Project management experience, including planning, scheduling, and coordinating engineering projects.
Experience with DFM, FEA and other engineering tools.
