Job summary

Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) seeks a technician to upgrade, maintain, and operate high-power RF systems within the Neutron Sciences Directorate. You will lead daily operation of 100+ HPRF transmitters, coordinating with engineers to design upgrades and test equipment to sustain 99% availability.

Some after-hours work may be required to meet reliability targets. The role resides in the Radio Frequency Group of the Accelerator Systems Section, offering opportunities to work with scientists

Qualifications

  • AS in electrical engineering, electrical engineering technology, or related field with 5+ years of related experience.
  • Experience using RF transmitting equipment in science, broadcast, military, RADAR, or medical applications.
  • Experience troubleshooting complex technical systems.
  • Experience using specified test equipment (multimeters, oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, network analyzers).

Responsibilities

  • Lead daily operation and maintenance of Spallation Neutron Source high power RF systems.
  • Design, develop, and install upgrades in coordination with engineering.
  • Test and repair equipment to support high availability operations.
  • Provide occasional call-in support.
