Job summary

Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) seeks a Power Electronics Engineer to support the Electrical Power Conversion Group in the Research Accelerator Division for the Spallation Neutron Source. You will oversee high-voltage systems, modulators, magnet power supplies, beam kickers, and choppers, driving design, testing, and upgrades.

Responsibilities include planning projects, developing specifications, collaborating with vendors, and maintaining safety and quality standards in a world-class

Qualifications

• BS in electrical engineering or related field with at least 5 years of proven experience (MS with 3 years or PhD with relevant experience).
• Solid understanding of analog and digital circuits and electric circuit theory.
• Experience planning and managing major technical projects.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate HV Converter Modulators, power supplies, and kicker/chopper systems to enhance performance and address obsolescence.
• Support 24/7 SNS accelerator operations, including occasional after-hours calls to maintain neutron production availability.
• Plan, manage, and implement maintenance and upgrades using work control tools.
• Develop and maintain documentation for design, installation, training, testing, maintenance, and procurement.
• Present work at conferences and sponsor reviews; ensure safety and environmental compliance.
