The Neutron Sciences Directorate (NScD) at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) is seeking a technician who will focus on the upgrade, maintenance, and operation of high-power radiofrequency systems. As part of our team, you will be responsible for leading the day-to-day operation of over 100 high power radiofrequency (HPRF) transmitter systems used to accelerate a charged particle beam. The HPRF systems include vacuum tube-based amplifiers, solid state amplifiers, AC and DC power supplies, PLC and printed circuit board-based control systems, waveguide, transmission lines, resonant cavities, couplers, and other components necessary for the production and transmission of RF power. Your tasks will include solving complex technical problems, developing system upgrades, and supervising craft working on the systems under your care. Our team includes engineers, scientists, and other technicians. In this role, the primary goal is to provide the most reliable RF systems possible, safely, with 99 percent availability. Off-hours work may be necessary to maintain these high availability goals. This position resides in the Radio Frequency Group in the Accelerator Systems Section, Research Accelerator Division.
