What You Will Do

The High-Performance Computing Division (HPC) managers world-class Supercomputing Centers. We develop and deploy cutting-edge technologies to enable current and future high-performance computing. This includes specifying, operating, and assisting in the use of both open and secure high-performance computing, storage and data-intensive information science production systems. HPC Division translates evolving HPC technologies into the assets deployed in our data centers. To that end, we shape future supercomputing technology through collaboration with industry and academia, develop HPC‑specific system software, and specify and assist in the procurement of high-performance computing systems at all scales. Moreover, we steward existing programmatic resources and integrate computing and supporting infrastructure into a fully operational supercomputing environment.

HPC is seeking recent graduates looking for a challenging paid post graduate internships at the post-baccalaureate level. All selected candidates will be provided with a mentor, a challenging project for their appointment, and an opportunity to present their project work and progress to colleagues. The projects we have to offer will vary depending on the skills and interests of the candidate and our current needs.

What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements

Recent graduates (BS/BA Degree) would qualify for a 1‑2 year appointment through our Post Baccalaureate program. All viable candidates must have a minimum GPA of 3.0/4.0 for consideration, and have earned the degree no more than 3 years ago. Q clearance eligibility required. We are seeking a wide variety of computational skills employed in an HPC environment. To receive full consideration, candidates must have received a degree in one of the following areas:

• Computer Engineering
• Computer Engineering
• Systems Administration
• Computer Networking
• Computer System Analysis
• Software Engineer
• Information Systems Security Management
• Computer Science

AND, knowledge and introductory experience in one or more of the following areas

• Cluster Computing and System Administration
• Programming skills (C++, Python, SQL, Perl, etc.)

Education/Experience

Clearance: Q

Position will be cleared to this level. Selected applicants will be subject to a background investigation conducted by or on behalf of the Federal Government, and must meet eligibility requirements* for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance. and obtaining such clearance requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon the position, additional authorization to access classified information may be required, which may or may not be available to dual citizens. Receipt of a Q clearance and additional access authorization ultimately is a decision of the Federal Government and not of Triad.

• Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 for additional information.

New-Employment Drug Test

The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing. Although New Mexico and other states have legalized the use of marijuana, use and possession of marijuana remain illegal under federal law. A positive drug test for marijuana will result in termination of employment, even if the use was pre‑offer.
